Chiang Mai, Thailand

Yesterday we left Bangkok and boarded an hour flight to Chiang Mai, Thailand. Easy peasy!

Chang Mai is in the north of Thailand and is much smaller than Bangkok.

Our guide, Ong, took us by tuk tuk to different temples throughout the city. The oldest temple in Chiang Mai is approximately 700 years old and some Buddha statues found within the temples date back as far as 1,500 years old!

The facade and dragon stair rail on this temple are made from hand-carved stucco, piece by piece. It was very impressive! Ong told us that dragons in China represent power and fire, whereas dragons for the Thai represent fortune and water.

The murals painted on these concrete walls, which span the entirety of this temple, date back over 500 years.

These are wax figures of famous Thai monks. They looked so real!

We were each blessed with holy water and ‘luck’ bracelets by the local monk...one for each wrist.

After visiting the temples, we had reservations for a traditional Thai dinner show in the Old Chiang Mai section of town.

The servers walk around and refill any bowl you’d like refilled. We had pork, chicken, sticky rice, fried plantains and some other treats that we weren’t even sure of what we were eating!

During dinner, hill tribes from the mountains come and dance traditional Thai dances.

Rose was brave enough to join in on the fun!
