Yesterday we drove from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai with a few stops along the way. Our first stop was to the hot springs and we were all geared up to go in our swimsuits.
The girls loved these two little puppies...
We had a good laugh when we saw the hot springs. They were very different from the hot springs we bathed in on our cross country road trip! No bathing suits necessary, in fact, you could not get too close to these.
Our second stop was to Wat Rong Kun, The White Temple. It was designed and opened in 1997 as an art exhibit Buddhist temple and it was loaded with people!
The fanciest bathroom we ever did see...
We arrived at our hotel in Chiang Rai and the girls were thrilled to see a pool of our own in a private garden behind our room. Rosalie was very impressed with the swan towels on the bed.
Rosalie decided we were all deserving of a hot stone massage. She collected stones from around the pool and heated them with hot water in the sink. She also found lotion in the bathroom and we each got a Thai massage from her.
We ate lunch at the hotel. They had a sign posted that it was a Buddhist holiday and there would absolutely be no alcohol served for 24 hours. We asked the waitress if that applied to beer and wine and she brought the sign over to the table to show us. She then proceeded to say the only thing she could serve us was a mojito. Well ok then, that works for us! Still scratching our heads over that one!
Later, we took a shuttle downtown to visit the nightly market. There were all kinds of goods and the prices are very inexpensive. We gave the girls a souvenir budget before leaving but now realize we may need an additional suitcase because everything is just a dollar or two.
Our first day in Chiang Rai was very relaxing.
