This morning we went to the local boulangerie and grabbed croissants and espresso.
We had a five hour ride to our next destination so we stopped in the town of Beaune on the way. Beaune is considered the capital of Burgandy wine but is also well known for its Hospice that was opened in 1442 for the sick and needy. We took an audio tour that was guided by handheld devices. Nana Marie suggested it and it was very interesting!
In the center of Beaune we were lucky enough to catch their weekly Saturday market. The wine, cheese, meat and flower stand were endless. We shopped around and picked up some fresh, local foods.

Finding the house we are renting for the next two nights was not easy! Although Avignon isn't a huge city, there are many narrow streets and lots are one way. The hosts were nice enough to walk to us and guide us to the house. We are right downtown and within walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops. The house is very cozy!

After we ate, we hit the streets to see the Palais des Papes (Pope's Palace) and find gelato...Rosalie is already asking! For seventy years during the 1300s, seven successive popes lived in Avignon.

Tomorrow we'll be driving to small towns nearby. France is a beautiful country and we are all enjoying it!

You must be glad to be spending 2 nights at one place! It looks so cute! You get much more of a feel for the country than if you stayed in hotels! I'm glad you enjoyed Beaune and were there for a market day! I thought the market was amazing there, so many different things! We had gone to Avignon as well, we spent one day there and saw the Popes Palace too! Looks like everyone is having a great time! XOXO
