Dachau, Germany

On Friday morning we visited Dachau Concentration Camp & Memorial Site on our way to Munich, Germany. I've watched various holocaust movies and read books on the subject but visiting the camp made it all the more real. Standing on the pebbles of the common area, I tried to imagine the things I've seen in movies and read about. It really was chilling.

There were guided tours in many languages offered throughout the day but they're not recommended for children under 12 because the information is very graphic. Before we arrived at the camp we talked to them about the history and what it might be like there. At the end of our visit they all agreed it was very sad.

This is the room where prisoners were first brought. They were stripped of all of their belongings and clothes.
