Todi, Civita di Bagnoregio & Orvieto, Italy

Sunday we were going to head out early but we swam in the pool longer than we had planned. It was a nice break from always being on the go the past week. The girls got a chance to play with Gabriele's daughter. It was sweet to see the girls doing cartwheels together and playing even though they couldn't speak to each other.
Breakfast was served at the house each morning.

Our first stop that day was in Todi. We saw more incredible views and had lunch at a restaurant called Pane E Vino. The food was incredible and Jay was laughing when I pulled out my camera to take more food pictures. The blog is slowly turning into a food blog!
Beef carpaccio with aged cheddar.
More pasta bolognese!
Local thick cut bacon with balsamic glaze. There are no words!
Homemade basil raviolis
Truffle oil pasta with aged cheddar

Espresso
Our next stop was in Civita di Bagnoregio. It is known as the "dead city" because after many natural disasters hundreds of years ago the inhabitants fled the area and it has remained untouched since. A bridge was added so tourists could access it. The kids weren't up for the walk out to the city but the view was amazing. I would have liked to explore the city...maybe someday.
Finally, we visited Orvieto. The streets were very narrow and it was easy to lose your way but what a beautiful city!

Searching for a friend of a friend's restaurant.
It was closed. Boo!
Down an alleyway we stumbled upon "Il Mago di Oz" which means The Wizard of Oz. The entire shop was filled with miniature toys and figurines and had photos all over the wall of "Oz" with celebrities. He didn't speak English but he gave us a booklet that explained that through his magic he could make your dreams come true. He directed me to point my finger in a certain spot and the shop lit up with music and dancing figurines. Then he had me wave my hand and shut everything down. The kids were mesmerized. It was very cool and Rose has talked about it every day since.

With the wizard. When we left Rosie said, "He dresses just like Papa Rich!" HAHA
We sat at a wine bar and had some drinks while we listened to a band play on the patio.

Orvieto was a lot of fun. It was one of my favorite stops we've made!

  1. Glad you liked Orvieto, it was someplace I wanted to revisit as we were only there for 1-2 hours on a tour. I personally like hearing about and seeing pictures off the food, especially because I'm dieting for the wedding. Rosie certainly is a girl of many faces and poses:) Love you all! NanaMarie
