Verona & Lake Garda, Italy

Wednesday morning we arrived in Verona, Italy. Verona is well known for its Roman ruins and also where Shakespeare's, Romeo and Juliet, takes place. The girls had never heard the story before so I told them on the walk from the parking garage to the city center. Then they wanted to hear it again...and again! Safe to say they are now obsessed and I forgot how much I loved the story too. Verona is called the "city of love" and even receives thousands of love letters each year addressed to : Juliet - Verona, Italy.

Little miss wanted to document her shoes. She got them for the trip and the start of school but sadly, they are falling apart with all this walking. Good thing we brought sneakers and flip flops.

We grabbed a small bite to eat at this restaurant. They specialize in their dried meats. Their prosciutto was excellent!

Just her daily gelato meltdown. She's lucky we found some for 1 euro.

Back in the car, we started heading for Lake Garda. We were booked to stay in the town of Cassone but we got an email a few days before stating that they were overbooked. Priceline guaranteed to find another room on the lake of the same quality or better for the same price. We ended up being offered a room in the town of Malcesine, which meant little to us, we were just happy to be staying somewhere as the whole lake seemed booked. Our hotel was a huge upgrade and made up for the scary hotel in Venice. We had AC finally (have I mentioned it's been hot!), three pools and direct access to the lake.

How is it possible that Italy keeps getting better and better? Stunning!

After we swam in the pool, we went down to swim in the lake. The kids tried skipping rocks with daddy and dunked a little but it was cold!

Drowning our sorrows in limoncello and grappa. Our last night in Italy! But the waitress showed me how to mix my espresso and grappa so that was a plus!

It's hard to describe how much I love Italy. I will be back someday, God willing. We all will...the kids are starting to plan their honeymoons in sweet, sweet Italia!
