Parma, Italy

On Wednesday we stopped in Parma on our way to Cinque Terre. Parmigiana cheese was first created there and they are also known for their prosciutto. We had lunch at a small restaurant called Osteria Del Benti. It was a moment where you realize this is a special memory you'll never forget. It is owned and operated by a family and they were so incredibly nice. The owner, Mara, spoke about as much English as we do Italian but we managed. She said she was passionate about food and family and it showed. It was our favorite meal since arriving in Europe. After we were seated she told us she'd bring out whatever the cook was making that day.

The meat platter looks much smaller in the photo than it actually was and they brought out two of them. The prosciutto was great!

Homemade raviolis!

Pasta bolognese...instead of ground beef they used small cuts of beef. It was amazing!

Almond cake. Sugar, flour, butter and almonds...that's it. It was delicious.

A shot of limoncello and espresso ends each meal in Italy. I could get used to this!

In the center of Parma we visited the Teatro Farnese. It was built in 1618 and has the oldest proscenium arch in a permanent theater in history. It is also one of the most famous theaters in Italy for its grand opera.

We arrived in Cinque Terre around dinner time and ate in the hotel restaurant.
