Ljubljana, Slovenia

Yesterday we spent the day in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia.

We found a drive through coffee shop on the way. As long as I can read espresso...I'm good!

English is the second language of Slovenia. Although we can't read many of the signs, there's been no problem communicating.

When we arrived in the city, we parked and walked around Old Town.

There's shops, restaurants and street markets lining the river bank.

We stopped in a cafe when we saw a sign for iced coffee. The Slovenian version is a bit different than what we're accustomed to in the States. It was a blended drink with an ice cream in it.

The lighter drink was made with pumpkin oil and pumpkin seeds. Pumpkin oil is very popular in Slovenia and we've seen it on many menus.

The girls were thrilled to find an ice cream roll stand. They've seen the process online but have yet to find it back home. It was really cool to watch but the result was a very messy sundae.

Back in Venice everything, and I mean everything, was covered with a winged lion emblem. In Slovenia their emblem is the dragon!

Ljubljana Castle sits above the city...

In the afternoon we spent a few hours at the BTC Center, Slovenia's largest shopping mall. It has over 450 stores, indoor go karts, a movie theater and a water park. We only popped into a few stores and it was exhausting!

For dinner we went back into the city center for Mexican food. I got a salad with pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil dressing!

The girls got a good scare when they pulled out the chair and found a sleepy cat.

Ljubljana is beautiful and a lot of fun! If we ever come back to Slovenia, we'd definitely stay in the city!

Surprise!
There are just as many gelato stands in Slovenia as there are in Italy. Rosalie is very happy!

Before heading home we realized we wouldn't have enough battery life on our phones to use the GPS. We may have found Slovenia's only Irish pub and the bartender let Jay use a phone charger. We sat in a snug and watched the London World Championship. We discovered that we're all really interested in the women's long jump.

Boo...a day late and a dollar short!

Today we head to Lake Bohinj and Lake Bled!
