Cisco, UT

Yesterday we drove out to Cisco, UT - a ghost town.  In the late 1800s it was a watering stop for steam engine trains.  They say the town was booming at one point.  They discovered oil and had restaurants and hotels.  Now it's filled with broken down cars and all of the buildings have been vandalized. 

I read that while Butch Cassidy was trying to lay low outside of Moab, he would hide out in Cisco with other outlaws.  It was considered the "roughest, sleaziest, most dangerous place in the west for quite some time."  

Johnny Cash wrote a song about it and a couple of movies were filmed there, including Thelma and Louise. 

We drove through and turned right around.  No one for miles and miles - a true ghost town. 

I might have gotten out to look around, if not for lots and lots of these animals...

What is it anyway?  OK, it's a prairie dog.

On the way back into town we stopped at this huge red dirt hill.  You can climb up and slide down but we had nothing to slide down with.  When the girls realized it stains your clothes and gets in your shoes, they were all set.
