Yellowstone National Park - WY

On Friday we packed up our camp site to head to Yellowstone. 

This is what the trunk of the van looks like.  Jay strategically packs this up everyday.  He has a method.

In Yellowstone...

There was a large group on the side of the road taking photos of this.  Jay pulled over and jumped out to see what it was.  Pretty, but he really wanted to see an animal.  He loves seeing wildlife!

It was my turn to jump out and see what all the commotion was about.  There were deer right through these trees.  The woman in front of me says, "Here, take my spot" and pushes me up front.  Anyone who knows me would laugh because I was sooo close to these deer...and I was freaking out.  I thought they would stop eating and charge me.  Jay was jealous I got so close.

The brochure says it goes off every 80-90 minutes and will range in how long (sometimes up to 5 minutes) and how high it will go.  We got a dud.  It only lasted a few seconds and it didn't go too high.

The trees leftover from forest fires were amazing to see.  Acres upon acres of them.  Because it's a national park, they don't fight forest fires.  They let nature take its course and the trees will eventually fall down, be eaten away and new ones will grow.

Unfortunately, Yellowstone was a bust for us on this trip.  The park was beautiful but the girls are just too young for it.  The Tetons were manageable because it was a smaller park.  You could spend days driving around Yellowstone - it's huge!  Driving from different points in the park can take hours.  I think we were all done after Old Faithful, so we ate lunch and started heading out of the park.  It took two and a half hours to get out of the park (near the geyser) and into Cody, WY.
